AE alumni Earl H. Dowell, BS 59, and Michael B. Bragg, BS 76, MS 77, are candidates for the 2008 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Board of Directors.

Dowell, a candidate for President-Elect, is the William Holland Hall Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Dean Emeritus at Duke University. His principal teaching interest and research activity is in the field of aeroelasticity. Dr. Dowell has also done research in acoustics, nonlinear dynamics, structural dynamics, and unsteady aerodynamics.

Professor Mike Bragg

Bragg, an AE faculty member and previous Department Head, is a candidate for Vice President-Elect Publications. He currently is Associate Dean for Research and Administrative Affairs in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bragg’s two primary areas of research are aircraft icing and unsteady aerodynamics.

The ballot that includes Dowell and Bragg will be sent to all voting members of AIAA in February.

Appointed to serve on this year’s nominating committee was AE alumnus David Riley, BS 77, a program manager for Boeing. Riley is a representative for the Aerospace Sciences technical group.
