AE Ph.D. student Polette Centellas, who is in the Autonomous Materials Systems group at the Beckman Institute, traveled to Paris last week to compete at the JEC World Composites Challenge in Paris. Her challenge was to pitch her thesis in just 5 minutes, using only one slide. This is not an easy task when communicating highly technical information. But honing what's commonly referred to as an "elevator speech" is a science Centallas has mastered.

From the 10 finalists' presentations, the jury selected Centellas as the winner.

Here's Centellas' slide on rapid composite manufacturing. Interestingly, the 30 cm ✕ 30 cm panel in her research fabricated in under 5 minutes -- the same amount of time she was given to talk about it in last week's competition.
